The "IS" of Psalm 23:1
February 13, 2023, 2:00 PM

I was reading a devotional the other day and it pointed out the word 'IS' in Psalm 23:1. IS is such a small word, and yet it can be a very meaningful and powerful word! Psalm 23 is very well known. Except for John 3:16 it's probably the most memorized passage of Scripture in the whole Bible! Psalm 23:1 declares that: "The LORD is my Shepherd." Notice the word 'IS' in that verse. It doesn't say that the Lord WAS our Shepherd. It doesn't say that the Lord WILL BE our Shepherd. It certainly doesn't say that the Lord MIGHT BE our Shepherd. It says the Lord IS my shepherd. God is in the present tense my Shepherd and our Shepherd. Whatever challenge or heartache you are facing in life, you don't have to face it alone. Look to God and lean on God. He cares for us presently, in the today! He provides and guides and strengthens and refreshes and gives hope and victory in the today. It sure blessed my heart to be reminded that the Lord IS my Shepherd. I hope and pray it'll minister to you as well.

Blessings,

Pastor Jason
